Katerina Kyselica

Through my work, I seek understanding of the individual’s own existence. In the social system pre-occupied with rapid technological advancement, I look inward to explore established roles and expectations, speaking of entrapment and involuntary entanglement. I work in printmaking, drawing and mixed media.

Spiritual Dimension in Czech Printmaking, a presentation with artist Alena Laufrova, Czech Center New York

"What draws me to this etching is its offbeat playfulness. By choosing to crop the columns of squares and orient them at an angle, Kyselica is giving life to a sort of imagery that we’re accustomed to perceiving as stagnant. The focus here is primarily on the square in the corner that has broken away from the pack, which maintains a dominant visual tension in the print. It is easy to imagine it clicking into its reserved square spot, but its isolation is what preserves the print’s level of interest." -- Rachel Gordon, International Print Center New York. Katerina Kyselica's etching Untitled (Squares 6), 2014, New Prints 2014 / Summer juried exhibition at International Print Center New York
